What Does A College Consider?

Most colleges look at the same basic information when considering a student for admission:

1. GPA: Grade Point Average - this is the average of all your final grades for each credit-bearing course taken.
2. Class Rank: Your rank compares you to the rest of your class.  It is based on your weighted GPA.
3. Curriculum: Colleges look at the difficulty level of the courses you've taken, types of courses (foreign languages, math, science, electives...), and at the number of years you've taken particular sibjects.
4. Extracurricular Activities: These are the activities, clubs, and sports that you are involved in at school and in the community.
5. ACT/SAT Exam Scores: Competitive colleges require either the ACT or the SAT exam.  These exams are generally taken junior and/or senior year.
6. Recommendations: Required by some colleges and are generally written by your school counselor, teachers, coaches and/or community leaders.
