Miss O’Donnell works with all grade levels throughout the year on various projects.

4th Grade

Fourth graders visit the library once a week for library skills and book checkout. During the Fall students learned about the parts of a book, book care, fiction/non-fiction, and how to use the online catalog to search for books that they are interested in reading.

Currently the fourth graders are investigating the Dewey Decimal System. Students learn about each Dewey category, choose a book from that section, and discuss it during class the following week.

5th Grade

Fifth graders have used the library to research the solar system, Washington D.C., and to find books for literature circle. The 5th graders have also learned how to use the general encyclopedias more efficiently for research and the online catalog to search for books that they are interested in reading.

6th Grade

Sixth graders have used the library to search for Science Fiction, Animal Fiction, and Historical Fiction books. The librarian has also visited sixth grade classrooms to give booktalks about books of interest.

The sixth graders have also used the library during a two-week period to complete research on their Biography Projects. Students used various resources throughout the library, including the Internet, on-line databases, reference books, individual/collective biographies and general encyclopedias.

7th Grade

Various students have learned to use Power Point to present school projects. All seventh graders have also participated in Internet training and attempted to pass their Internet Driver’s License test. Once the student has passed the exam they are allowed to use the Internet for school related research purposes.
